Battlestar Galactica
After Starbuck holds the President hostage and fails to persuade her to change her mind about their current direction, she’s thrown into the brig again. There, she insists that if they continue jumping she will lose her way to earth and they will never find their way back. The Admiral is torn between trusting his logic or his heart when it comes to deciding Starbuck’s fate. Meanwhile, Lee “Apollo” Adama leaves Galactica for a career in the government and gives up his life as a Viper Pilot and a Major.
The four cylons aboard Galactica are still unsure what role they’re going to play in all that is happening while trouble is brewing among the dominant cylons. After the raiders have retreated without the command of the dominant cylons, they have put a vote to re-program the raiders and make “fix” whatever was the matter with them. The Sixes, Leobens and Sharons believe that the other 5 cylons (which they’re not supposed to think of) are among the human fleet but the Cavils refuse to believe them. After being out-voted, one of the Six models takes out the Centurion’s command control chip and causes mutiny by having the Centurions kill copies of Cavils, Dorals and Simons.
Overall, the episode was a solid 8.5/10. I quite enjoyed the scene with Gaius and head Gaius talking about Torri. This week, Vix and I still think that Gaius Baltar is the final cylon.
Doctor Who
The Doctor takes Donna to Ancient Rome, only they landed in Pompeii — and as The Doctor realizes, it’s volcano day! Surprisingly, the people of Pompeii aren’t worried that every now and then the ground shakes with so much force that families have designations which item to catch when they fall. Donna tries continually to understand why the Doctor can’t and won’t attempt saving the lives of the people who are about to die in a historic event. Between explaining the dangers of messing with fixed events and looking for the TARDIS — which has gone missing after being sold — the duo gets in the middle of two clashing sooth-sayers who guesses they’re from a different time and he’s from a different world.
Discovering that aliens from another planet are responsible for these gifts of visions and their plans to rule the Earth, the Doctor realizes the real reason behind the volcanic eruption … Pompeii was lost because he needed to save the rest of the Earth and to do so, he needed to blow Mount Vesuvius up and killing thousands of people. Finally yielding to Donna’s tearful request to save a life from the catastrophe, the Doctor takes a family for a ride in his TARDIS and as they watch Pompeii drown in lava, we have ourselves our only source of the events of that day.
I really loved this episode and Donna it in. There were hilarious moments and great interactions between the characters. I especially love the scene, almost at the end of the episode where the Doctor chokingly explains why he can never go back in time to save his people. I would give this episode an 8/10.
CSI:NY
The week’s episode called “Right Next Door” opens with an accidental death and Stella being sent home after a tiring day at work. She talks for a moment to a neighbor and later that night wakes up to the smell of smoke and the discovery that her building is on fire. While Stella deals with yet another tragedy in her life, the team searches for the reason or person behind the fire. Discovering pieces of paper with “help me” messages on them, Stella and the gang trace it back to her neighbor who they find out has been passing off a kidnapped girl as her niece and another kidnapped boy from years before as her son.
Meanwhile, Lindsay is reaching out to Danny in an attempt to lift him out of his guilt from the death of Ruben Sandoval. Danny turns down her offer for lunch and as it turns out, he’s been sleeping with the young boy’s mother as they both share the guilt of Ruben’s death. When Lindsay confronts him about his aloofness, Danny opts to not tell her about his relationship with Ricki — Ruben’s mom — and passes her concerns off as something petty. Lindsay realizes that she won’t get through to Danny she confesses that as much as she loves him, she has to give it up. Danny probably realizes what he has just done and tries to make amends later in the episode but it looks like it might be too late.
I never thought I’d say this about Danny but he was such as ’son of b*tch’ in this episode — cheating and lying about his sleeping around with Ricki. I absolutely felt for Lindsay who’s been trying to just reach out to him. I felt even more sad for Stella. After that whole shooting affair with Frankie and then Drew, now her place burns down? Gosh, she’s got the worst luck eh? With the story lines, this episode was packed with goodness, so I’m going to give it an 8/10.
